THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Lycoming County, PA is looking for a Welder! Your expertise in welding techniques and attention to detail will contribute to the smooth operations of our vehicles and infrastructure. If you have the necessary welding skills to help with building, ground, vehicle, equipment, and tool repairs and maintenance, come join our team for this fantastic career opportunity!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Welder, you will be responsible for a variety of skilled trades tasks. This will involve repairing parts, performing structural welding on bridge members, fixing equipment frames, hitches, and plows, as well as fabricating repair and body parts for different purposes. This includes welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting metal using arc, acetylene, or mig welders. You will also operate power hand tools, air tools, and motorized equipment while carrying out welding and fabrication tasks. Ensuring safety is a top priority, so you must maintain a secure working environment and follow safe work practices.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures;or

  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures;or

  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program;or

  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Post- Employment Requirement :

  • Must have or be willing to obtain the welding certification to be able to weld on bridges within the six-month probationary period.
