THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a qualified individual to take on the role of Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor. This pivotal position involves the application of robust engineering principles and practices, specifically as the District Load Rating Engineer and APRAS Support Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing and reviewing bridge load ratings provided by consultants, as well as contributing to the safety inspections of fracture critical and complex structures. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for determining which bridges are likely to be most impacted by the APRAS system, particularly in relation to the busiest highways that accommodate heavy hauling permits. This task may necessitate a reevaluation or the development of new data sets to ensure that we deliver optimal service to our heavy hauling clientele.

You will also be tasked with reviewing load rating analyses conducted by consultants. This will involve evaluating various methodologies and techniques that will be presented for consideration. The complexity of this engineering work demands a comprehensive understanding and an adaptable mindset, as the approaches may vary significantly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists ;or

  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline.

    Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currentlywaivedfor this title.
