THE POSITION

Utilize your experience in utility plant operation by becoming a Corrections Utility Plant Operator for the Department of Corrections! The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester is seeking an energetic, motivated person to join our team. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will be responsible for maintaining the operability of boilers, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and standby generators at SCI Chester. In this position, you will oversee an inmate work crew in the tasks related to maintaining efficient operations of boiler equipment in normal and emergency conditions. You can expect to utilize manual and automatic control operations systems, as well as read and interpret visual and aural gauges, meters, and sensing devices. You will clean and maintain equipment and make minor repairs to ensure proper functionality. Additionally, you will monitor inmate movement during operational hours, maintain a safe and secure work environment, and conduct searches of inmate workers and work areas for contraband.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are to be determined from the following two shifts, depending on operational needs, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • 2nd shift: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with a shift differential of $1.25 per hour

  • 3rd shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a shift differential of $1.15 per hour

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
