THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) is dedicated to enhancing public safety through housing and rehabilitating incarcerated individuals in facilities throughout the Commonwealth. State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset is seeking a detailed-oriented correctional professional to coordinate and direct security and treatment programs within our facility's housing units. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Pennsylvania DOC is a leader in the correctional industry and believes in supporting inmates by providing the highest quality educational opportunities and treatment programs. As a Corrections Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of unit programs for your assigned Institution, including developing and revising unit mission statements, operational goals, objectives, and procedures in conjunction with leadership.

You will be supervising a multi-disciplinary staff and implementing the overall unit program. As a leader, you will provide training, performance appraisals, and professional development for all personnel assigned to the unit. A few other crucial duties include managing unit resources and providing input on budget development, and monitoring overall unit security and being accessible and responsive to the concerns of both staff and inmates.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of professional experience in a correctional institution/facility in correctional security, treatment, quasi-judicial hearings or counseling; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of professional experience in a correctional institution/facility in correctional security, treatment, quasi-judicial hearings or counseling.

    Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
