THE POSITION

Start the next chapter of your plumbing career! The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC) at State Correctional Institute (SCI) Benner Township is actively seeking a devoted and passionate person, who is knowledgeable in the plumbing trade, to be part of a dedicated maintenance team and provide guidance to inmate students.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, y ou will provide on-the-job and shop instruction for the vocational training of inmates in the areas of general and preventative plumbing maintenance, as well as the installation of new plumbing fixtures and equipment. You will plan and assign work to inmates receiving plumbing training, and review as well as inspect work in progress and upon completion. You will also determine which tools are needed for each project and maintain an inventory of all necessary materials and supplies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,425.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems ;or

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.
