THE POSITION

The Department of General Services is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform a variety of duties within the Capitol, Annex Complex, and outlying buildings. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Carpenter 1, you will perform a full range of journeyman level carpentry duties, including making estimated and electronic recordings of time, material requirements, and supplies. In this position you will plan and lay-out work with drawings, sketches, blueprints, oral instruction, and your own knowledge of construction or needed repairs. You will also apply your skills to perform alterations, repairs, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs of varying materials, stairways, partitions, garage doors, screens, window guards, scaffolding, concrete forms, and wood and metal fixtures. Work includes installing metal and wooden partitions, modular furniture, paneling, flooring, grid work and ceiling tile, walls, and doors, as well as performing skilled bench work.

Additional duties for this position include maintaining tools and equipment, participating in snow and ice removal, and driving to various locations throughout the Capitol, Annex Complex, and outlying buildings in the Harrisburg Region. You may also have the opportunity to function as a lead worker.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Building Trades Trainee program (commonwealth title);or

  • Three years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, restoration, or maintenance of structures and articles made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.

    Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
