THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection, Air Quality program is seeking someone like you to contribute to the future of air quality in Pennsylvania. Your role will involve evaluating applications for plan approvals and operating permits essential for the construction, modification, and operation of air pollution sources and their control systems. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will evaluate applications for plan approvals and operating permits that are necessary for the construction, modification, and operation of sources of air pollution and their control mechanisms. Your recommendations regarding the approval or denial of these applications will be submitted to the regional Program Manager and the Environmental Engineer Manager, based on your thorough assessment.

As per licensure regulations, you will operate under the supervision of a licensed engineer within the Air Quality Program at the Southwest Regional Office. Your responsibilities will ensure compliance with environmental standards while facilitating the management of air quality initiatives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • This position requires travel.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the training program for Air Quality Engineering Trainee; or

  • Two years of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • One year of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. or

  • One year of professional experience in air quality engineering or environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering.

  • Graduate study in chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Condition of Employment:

  • This position will require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
