Summary You will serve as a Rigger Leader in Shop 72 of the Rigging Branch Code 741 in the Rigging and Equipment Operations Division (Code 740) of the Lifting and Handling Department (Code 700) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF Incumbent of this position will serve as an Expert Rigger leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A. Responsibilities You will serve as an Expert Rigger leading a group of Rigger Helpers, Rigger Workers and Riggers assuring all work assignments of the group are carried out. You will lead, train and mentor shop personnel in estimating weight and center of gravity of loads to be moved, planning weight distribution and load maneuvering, bracing, cushioning, and preparing the load and attaching appropriate lifting gear. You will explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs mechanics on new procedures and provides advice when problems arise. You will be responsible for planning, and arranging and executing proper and safe operations, ensuring that materials, tools, and component parts are safe as well as proper for the work. You will accomplish routine inspection of work in process to ensure work is completed in accordance with standards and specifications. You will monitor lifting and handling operations ensuring they are completed in accordance with schematic drawings, operations manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. You will oversee adjustments and repairs to maintain operation of lifting and handling equipment, cause of malfunction or defects, and repairs or replaces worn, damaged, or defective parts. You will fabricate, install and repair standing and running rigging and wire cable or fiber rope articles, such as slings, towing bridles, nets, rope, ladders, and other ship and boat rigging and weight handling gear.
