Indian Health Service Security Guard in Peach Springs, Arizona

Note: Security guard is listed as restricted position preference eligible for veteran's preference under 5 U.S.C. 3310 Responsibilities Patrols the area facility, checking door locks, alarms, fences, gates or other barriers. Controls access by monitoring the identification for individuals/employees entering controlled areas, and refers persons who lack proper credentials to a control point to arrange access. Relays messages, maintains logs and dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations. Protects the scene of an incident and relinquishes control to police or other law enforcement officials. This position is being announced concurrently under Excepted Service Examining Plan/Merit Promotion Plan (ESEP/MPP) procedures. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week You will need to set up direct deposit so we can pay you. Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: In accordance with 5 USC 3310; Security Guard positions are referred to as restricted positions, we must only refer qualified & available (veteran) preference eligible(s), if any. GS-0085-04: 6 months general experience and 6 months specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques OR 2 years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university. OR Combination of post high school education and general experience that meets minimum qualification requirements for this position. GS-0085-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life; locking doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure federal buildings; answering alarms and investigation disturbances; monitoring and authorizing entrance and departure of employees, visitors, patients and other persons; patrolling premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion; circulating among visitors, patients, or employees to preserve order; responding to medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or intrusion alarms, following emergency response procedures; training subordinate security officers in rules and procedures; communicating security status, updates, and actual or potential problems; and providing leadership to subordinate security officers. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying. General Experience (for positions at GS-4 and below): Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position has promotion potential to the GS-05 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
