Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implementation of Accounting Technology Projects:

  • Lead all efforts of the Accounting Technology team to execute on projects, as requested by Accounting management, that support accounting processes and improve the efficiency of both routine processes and ad hoc projects.

  • Gather from the Accounting team any pain points and inefficient processes that may be solved by technology solutions.

  • Prior to the application of technology, assist with the optimization of accounting processes by objectively reviewing each process.

  • Identify suitable technology solutions to be applied for management review and approval.

  • Act as liaison to the Business Application team (IT) to jointly execute approved projects.

  • Collaborate with IT to manage all aspects of approved accounting technology projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Working with IT on assessing technology solutions and providing recommendations for Accounting management to review and approve.

  • Managing the scope and timeline of all accounting-related technology projects.

  • Assessing potential future impact of new initiatives to the Accounting team.

  • Preparing comprehensive documentation to summarize business requirements gathered through sessions with Accounting and IT personnel.

  • Formulating and defining process improvement objectives; devising and modifying procedures to solve identified problems.

  • Anticipating/identifying issues that prevent the attainment of project goals and the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Leading the Accounting team’s share of the quality assurance process, coordinating user acceptance testing activities with business users, and procuring related sign-offs and approvals from business users.

  • Monitoring and reporting to management the status of current projects on a regular basis.

  • Ensuring adherence to Company policies and procedures.

  • Possess a solid understanding of accounting systems (from a capabilities perspective) and accounting processes (from a business perspective) to effectively address pain points and to carry out improvement projects with minimal guidance.

  • Coach and manage the team responsible for accounting system maintenance/enhancements and process evaluation/improvements.

Day-to-Day Maintenance of Existing Accounting Systems:

  • Provide business analysis and accounting systems knowledge support to the Accounting and IT teams, including Yardi, JD Edwards, Hubble, Nexus, and Essbase.

  • Support Accounting and regional teams on the automation of reports to streamline operational processes and/or assist with business decision making.

  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) on how various accounting systems and applications interact with other Company systems and applications.

  • Perform risk assessment analyses to detail-review existing system functionalities and controls (for example, reviewing system process controls to confirm the accuracy of core accounting for billings and payments).

  • Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions by applying SME knowledge of applications and accounting processes.

  • Foster and maintain effective relationships with functional and process SMEs, and IT colleagues, to meet expected levels of customer service.

  • Participate in supporting current applications, including with training, maintenance, issue resolution, user administration, enhancements, and upgrades.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Business required; CPA desirable.

  • 7+ years of work experience, with minimum 1 year as a manager.

  • Strong practical knowledge of accounting and finance business processes required.

  • Real estate industry/accounting knowledge and ERP systems (JDE, MRI, Yardi) experience highly desirable.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent project management, talent oversight, and leadership skills.

  • Experience with process mapping and process engineering.

  • Knowledge of project/process design, testing, and documentation.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel (including VBA) and intermediate skills with other Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.

  • The expected base salary range for this position is $165,000 to $185,000 USD annually, plus annual discretionary bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the consideration of many factors, which may include, but are not limited to: the individual’s knowledge, experience, education, qualifications, skills, job location, and the Company’s compensation practices.
