Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, ensures all aspects of care for the adult trauma patient are coordinated and meet standards of care. This is a dual role that is divided between Trauma Nurse Coordinator responsibilities and direct patient care. Allocated time in each role of the position can vary depending on clinic needs. Functions as an expert clinician who coordinates patient care, transfers, discharges and follow-up for all patients in the trauma program. Monitors and identifies quality assurance/improvement issues and implements corrective measures to return the patient to expected care pathways. Acts as a resource for nursing staff, physicians, and other ancillary services. Acts as an educator and participates in research and publication activities. Assist with data collection, abstraction and accurate data entry into the trauma registry. Adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Administration Scope and Standards of Practice (2015) to provide leadership with the nursing process. The Denver Health Winter Park Trauma Nurse Coordinator works closely with the Trauma/Medical Director and Denver Health Trauma Services to ensure that a data driven, outcome focused, systematic and measurable Performance Improvement Plan is in place. The Trauma Nurse Coordinator ensures that Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center maintains the desired trauma level designation status and plays a lead role in

Essential Functions:

Functions as an expert practitioner who coordinates and provides direct care of the trauma patient (10%) Serves as the liaison between Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center and CDPHE (10%) Coordinates with the DHWPMC Trauma Medical Director to ensure DHWPMC is represented locally and regionally in trauma and emergency preparedness and activities. (10%) Assisting in the oversight and monitoring of the delivery of trauma care (10%) Assist with data collection, abstraction and accurate data entry into the trauma registry (10%) Assist with development, implementation and ongoing assessment of trauma protocols (10%) Ensures that transitions of care from the ICU to acute care and acute care discharge follow all care protocols and screen patient to ensure clinical appropriateness of the planned transfer. (5%) Acts as a consultant by providing expertise in trauma care to pre-hospital providers, nurses and other health care professionals. This includes oversight and coordination of trauma injury prevention programs. (5%) Assists in the development of nursing standards of care for trauma patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines. (5%) Coordinates and participates in trauma outreach and education programs. (5%) Provides timely patient follow-up, communication and discharge summaries to referring Trauma Nurse Managers/Coordinators and Prehospital Personnel. Acts as an ambassador of Denver Health. (5%) Coordinates the development, implementation, and assessment of Quality Assurance/ Continuous Quality Improvement related to trauma care. (5%) Proactively conducts audits, monitors data for trends, create plans for performance improvement, identify method(s) to evaluate the PI plan, and see it through to loop closure. Ba helor's Degree Nursing (BSN) Required Work Experience:

1-3 years professional nursing practice in Trauma/General Surgery, Critical and/or Acute Care, Emergency Care Required Licenses:

BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of American College of Surgeons guidelines. Knowledge of CDPHE rules and regulations for Level V Trauma program. Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and independently. Strong skills in verbal communication, public speaking, presentation, writing and editing required. Ability to work independently and be self-directed. Ability to show evidence of educational preparation. Ability to show evidence of clinical experience in the care of injured adult patients.
