Supervisor Technical Pathology - Pathology

Location: Parma Health Center

Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: M-F 7:30a - 4p; additional hours as needed

Summary:

Ensures the efficient operation and effective supervision of assigned area(s) within Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. Creates an optimal environment for all phases of laboratory operations, including efficient sample processing, accurate/timely performance of laboratory testing, monitoring inventory, maintaining adequate supplies, and optimizing resource utilization. Provides training and orientation to staff, students, and residents as necessary. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Core Laboratory - Hematology Section Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in Hematology. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving and analytical troubleshooting skills.

Core Laboratory - Chemistry Section Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in Chemistry. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving and analytical troubleshooting skills.

Core Laboratory - Second Shift Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in a Core Lab environment. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving and analytical troubleshooting skills.

Microbiology Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in Microbiology. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Cytology Required: Registered Cytotechnologist (CT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Cytotechnology Degree, a Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Biology or related field, OR an Associate of Science degree in Biology or related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Cytotechnologist. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Blood Bank Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in a Blood Bank. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Current certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certification. Problem solving skills.

Histology Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Histotechnologist (HT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. One of the following: • Associate of Science Degree in an applied science or equivalent as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA-88) regulations, OR • HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam and past experience performing tissue handling and dissecting/grossing prior to April 24, 1995, with documentation of tissue handling and dissecting/grossing proof from previous employers, and 10 years of recent experience as a Histology Supervisor. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Histotechnologist. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Mortality Service Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in related field, Mortuary Science Degree, OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below. Experience in Mortality Service. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Support Services Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Phlebotomist (PBT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Associate of Science Degree in related field. Three years of phlebotomy experience with one year of experience as an instructor focusing on phlebotomy training. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Central Accessioning/Customer Service Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Phlebotomist (PBT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Associates Degree in Science, Arts, or Education, or other related field. Five years of laboratory experience as a Phlebotomist, Technologist, or Processor with a minimum of three years in an accessioning or customer service environment. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Immunology/Virology/Molecular Testing Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science Degree in related field. Five years of laboratory bench experience as a Laboratory Technologist with a minimum of three years of experience in a Immunology, Virology, Molecular, or Cytogenetic testing environment. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving skills.

Satellite and Rapid Response Laboratories Required: Registered Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent registration. Bachelor of Science Degree in related field with 5 years of laboratory bench experience as a Technologist and a minimum of three years as a generalist. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills.

Preferred: Supervisory experience. Problem solving and analytical troubleshooting skills.

For All Areas Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
