Position Summary:

We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and accurately coding medical records, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. This role is pivotal in maintaining the accuracy of medical data and ensuring proper billing and reimbursement for healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and Analyze Medical Records: Evaluate patient medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures performed.

  • Assign Codes: Utilize ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to assign appropriate codes to diagnoses and procedures.

  • Ensure Compliance: Maintain adherence to healthcare regulations, payer requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Data Entry: Input coded data into the electronic health record (EHR) system and other billing software.

  • Auditing: Conduct regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with billing regulations.

  • Communication: Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnostic and procedural information as needed.

  • Continuing Education: Stay updated with changes in coding standards and industry regulations through ongoing education and training.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health information management or a related field preferred.

  • Certification: Current certification from AHIMA (CCS, CCA) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H).

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding within a healthcare setting.

  • Knowledge: Proficient in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Technical Skills: Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and medical billing software.

  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to work with high levels of accuracy.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ethical Standards: High level of integrity and confidentiality with sensitive patient information.
