Summary Description:
The Clinical Education Coordinator is an RN with a talent for teaching and engaging with staff to advance staff knowledge and proficiency in clinical practice. The Clinical Education Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Nursing Outcomes and collaborates with educators to define clinical staff performance goals which support major short and long-term divisional and organizational initiatives. Through this collaboration, the Clinical Education Coordinator supports the implementation of Nursing care delivery to meet practice and compliance standards. The scope of responsibility and accountability for the Clinical Education Coordinator role continuously evolves to meet the demands of the practice and regulatory environment. The strategic goals of the organization are a guide for the Clinical Education Coordinator’s priorities and goals. The Clinical Education Coordinator assumes various roles, including educator/facilitator, educator/oriented, change agent/team member, consultant, leader/communicator, collaborator/advisor/mentor. As health care is constantly evolving, the Clinical Education Coordinator plays a pivotal role in helping the organization and its staff to adapt to these changes' demands. The Clinical Education Coordinator must remain flexible and maintain a focus on the future. He/she must be proactive in leading change rather than reacting to emerging trends (such as workforce issues, clinical practice changes, professional development practice changes, and organizational changes).
Job Requirements:
1) Quality of Nursing Professional Practice
Systematically assesses and supports the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice by providing observation and just-in-time training or corrective action as needed. Tracks trends in consult calls and leads the development of plans to address education/practice needs in collaboration with unit leadership and educators.
2) Education
Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing and professional development practice and achieves professional development as needed to model the way for staff.
3) Professional Practice Evaluation
Evaluates his/her practice concerning professional practice standards and guidelines, along with relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
4) Educational Program Support
Supports the assessment and design of educational plans; implements and evaluates educational programs and projects (orientations, continuing education, competencies, and in-services) for direct care providers.
5) Collegial
Establishes collegial partnerships contributing to the professional development of peers, students, colleagues, and others.
6) Collaboration
Collaborates with inter-professional teams, leaders, stakeholders, and others to accomplish positive clinical and educational outcomes.
7) Ethics
Integrates ethics in all areas of practice.
8) Becomes competent with all new equipment in their assigned area and assure staff are trained as assigned
9) Best Practice and Evidence
Integrates findings of current practice literature and regulatory updates into practice
10) Resource Utilization
Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost factors regarding educational activities and expected outcomes.
11) Use Process Improvement data to educate staff on safety, quality, patient experience, and value
Qualifications
Unless otherwise required by certification, licensure, or registration, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the minimally required education and/or experience listed in the Qualifications section below.
Minimally Required Education:
Bachelor of Arts or higher. Must have one earned degree in Nursing.
Required Work Experience:
Two years in a professional nursing practice.
Preferred Work Experience:
Experience teaching/precepting individuals or groups of students or staff; experience as a charge nurse.
Skills and Competencies:
Computer proficient in EMR and MS Office
Knowledge of adult learning principles
Knowledge of the diverse populations served
Ability to critically process information and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
Demonstrated ability to teach individuals and groups of staff
Promotes a safe and healthy work environment
