Job Description:

Due to substantial growth in our business Harris has an immediate need for an Optical Engineer. We are seeking an intermediate professional with practical knowledge of the photonics area. This key role will provide technical insight for our existing technologies and develop new technologies to capture and lead new programs with our military, government, and commercial customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, modify, and test optical communications subsystems

  • Design, simulate, modify, and test RF Photonic subsystems

  • Select components and equipment based on analysis of program requirements

  • Support internal and external design reviews in photonic systems

  • Support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to meet development milestones

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics/Optics/Optical Engineering, quantum science and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance

  • 3+ years experience modeling and or designing photonics systems

  • Experience generating technical data for business proposals

  • 1+ years of experience developing prototype optical systems

  • 1+ years of experience leading a product development team

    Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the design, modeling, development, and testing of quantum sensors, and in particular Rydberg electric field sensors

  • Experience/capability in quantum physics applicable to the development of quantum technologies, including but not limited to, quantum sensing, quantum time distribution, entanglement, and entanglement distribution

  • Experience/capability in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics theory

  • Digital Lightwave Communications: Physical layer systems, components (EDFA, Modulators, SFPs, Switches, etc.) and modules for optical communication systems

  • Coherent RF Photonics: Transport and processing of analog signals (radar, wireless communications, etc.) on optical systems

  • Photonic Integrated Circuits: Improving Size Weight and Power (SWaP) for photonics systems utilizing photonic integrated circuits

  • Optical multi-input multi-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP): Improving optical system throughput and bit error rate (BER) using post processing techniques

  • Photonic Modeling: Ability to model photonic systems using one or more of the following software packages: MATLAB, OptSim, BeamProp, Zemax, HFSS

  • Experience with product development for government contracts

  • Clearance: TS/SCI with poly preferred
