Job Description

The Quality Engineer focuses on leading quality improvements of materials and processes, the Quality Management System and corrective action processes. This position requires the ability to drive improvement across multiple functional areas, through committed root cause discovery and analysis. Good judgment skills are necessary to ensure the appropriate balance of quality, compliance, and business needs. The scope will include ISO 9001:2015, FSC and MAQMSR.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon site specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Work with raw material vendors to resolve quality issues and to make improvements

  • Provide internal production quality support related to issue resolution, product quality/risk assessment and product disposition

  • Provide plant quality support and representation in new product development, spec reviews and approvals, scale up, design transfer, and facility validation activities

  • Dispositions materials or assists in dispositioning material on as needed basis

  • Work to help resolve internal and external customer quality concerns

  • Lead customer quality improvement with a focus on specific customers

  • Lead claim reduction (CLP / CPMO reduction) efforts

  • Independently lead cross-functional problem solving efforts

  • Maintain and evaluate the site's corrective action program through the issuing, evaluation & completion of corrective actions.

  • Drive step change improvements in the claim corrective action and preventive action (CAPA) processes

  • Perform data analysis and capability studies

  • Drive improvements to the quality system that ensures its suitability, adequacy and effectiveness

  • Provides guidance into the development and maintenance of the Site Quality Management System

  • Supports management of document control, calibration, corrective and preventative action, non-conforming material, deviations and supplier quality processes

  • Prepare and communicate metrics / results weekly and for management review

  • Serve as a member of the Avery Dennison’s internal audit team and support customer, supplier and regulatory audits

  • Provides training and quality support to the production areas as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or technical field.

  • 1-3 years experience in Quality or similar fields.

  • Associates degree in engineering, science or technical field considered with 5+ years of direct quality experience

  • Good statistical background with Minitab knowledge

  • Experience handling multiple responsibilities with minimal direction.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.

  • Able to effectively work with various functions and levels within the organization.

  • Able to actively contribute in a team based environment, as well as effectively work with various functions and levels within the organization. Encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

  • Have a strong customer service and quality focus, be able to address issues effectively when problems arise, and take the initiative to understand the root cause then communicate/educate the team in a timely manner.

Preferred Requirements 

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015

  • Knowledge of FSC, MAQMSR is helpful

  • Six Sigma Training or certification is helpful
