Job Description Summary

The Department of Physics at Miami University, Oxford, OH, is searching for a Director of Instructional Laboratories. Responsibilities include management, maintenance, and development of apparatus for instructional teaching labs.

 

Job Description

Director of Instructional Lab will supervise undergraduate and graduate students in coordination with instructors. Collaboration with on-campus machinists is expected. Duties will require performance of physical activities.

Responsibilities include management, maintenance, and development of apparatus for instructional teaching labs. The Department offers instructional labs for non-science majors, and as part of courses in introductory algebra- and calculus-based physics, sophomore-level contemporary physics, electronics, and advanced topics. Work will be done in consultation and collaboration with course instructors.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in physics or related field; have physics knowledge.

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Master's degree or several years of relevant experience; have experience with commercial instructional lab equipment, soldering and electronics, computer aided design and mechanical drawings, 3D printing, database management and development (e.g., Filemaker), and basic machining skills; good communication skills and pedagogy experience; is adaptable, enthusiastic, and able to work well with others; and excellent time management and organizational skills.
