Description of Department: The Student Financial Aid Office is dedicated to providing a compliant student centered financial aid experience. It's our goal to advise students to the best of our abilities and help them navigate the often intimidating application process. Our expert team helps students and their supporters navigate state, federal, third party, and institutional aid. Together we will help students identify the aid that works best for them, so they can focus on their academic goals with financial peace of mind.

The Financial Aid Office at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Financial Aid Advisor.

Posting Date: June 3, 2024

Compensation: $50,000 (https://www.suny.edu/hr/compensation/salary/) commensurate with experience plus full New York State benefits package.

Date of Appointment: As soon as possible

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Provide front line customer service in person, via phone, and virtually to students, parents, and

  • other institutional offices. Provide complete and accurate interpretation, counseling and

  • resolutions to all students' financial aid packaging and awarding needs.

  • Meet with students and families on an individual basis as well as present to groups of prospective students and their families.

  • Evaluate student financial aid applications and determine appropriate action to resolve errors and conflicting information.

  • Coordinate the Financial Aid Office email.

  • Monitor, manage, and track student financial aid processes utilizing the Banner system and supplemental reports.

  • Correspond with students appropriately and timely using multiple tools to maximize student response including, but not limited to: ARGOS, BDM, Campus Logic, Microsoft Office,

  • and Google Workspace.

  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all federal, state and institutional financial aid programs. Identify best practices and make recommendations to the Associate Director for implementation.

  • Assist the Associate Director with management of Foundation Scholarships. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Ability to work without close supervision and to set priorities and work schedule

  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other College departments

  • 1 year of experience in a Higher Education setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of federal and New York State financial aid programs for both undergraduate and graduate students

  • Experience using Banner student system

  • Understand the role of the financial aid office in a comprehensive, public college

  • Experience working in a Financial Aid Office, or have a transferable skillset
