Oshkosh Corporation STEM Sr Project Engineer in Oshkosh, Wisconsin

THE ROLE:

The goal will be to mature our STEM engagement program that aligns with our Engineering talent pipeline strategy. Our STEM engagement spans from Kindergarten to University and provides engagement that spans from overall awareness to student project and internships to full-time hires. Understanding the level of effort for each engagement is important for us to make the biggest impact with our time and resources. The ideal candidate will work with cross functional team members to understand current and future talent needs to align programs and engagement activities to recruit and engage future talent.

Additionally, you will perform high level, engineering analysis, design or re-design, validation and troubleshooting of complex components for heavy duty vehicles. Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design. Provide technical leadership in high level analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope. Provide specialty research and development, analysis, modeling, and simulation in strategic technology areas.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Responsible for completion of a complex project on time. Will be responsible for overall project schedule and budget. Responsible for managing multiple priorities.

  • Collaborate as needed with other engineering business support disciplines internally as well as suppliers externally. May have exposure to the external customers and/or industry organizations.

  • Provide guidance or mentorship to Youth apprentices and entry level engineers working on a common project.

  • Perform and check complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.

  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of complex plans designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.

  • Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards. Ensure that technical issues are conducted with the framework of company policies and procedures

  • Research, create, and update standard engineering methodology and procedures - best practices, etc.

  • Enhance and align our engineering STEM engagement strategy for elementary school to university by integrating a framework of processes, tools, training, and technology to support initiatives to attract top diverse talent to Oshkosh corporation.

  • Collaborate with leaders to identify emerging skill sets, and target channel selection (universities, student organizations, military) that align with organizations priorities and can deliver intern-to-full time conversions.

  • Handle day to day engagement and sponsorship requests, assist with promotional flyers and volunteer recruitment.

  • Maintain engagement outreach calendar and event recap to capture continuous improvement of events while monitoring the effectiveness, lessons learned, speed and quality.

  • Leverage external benchmarking, internal hiring, and resource planning data to analyze trends, identify and solve potential gaps that we can close with STEM initiatives.

  • Employ innovation and continuous improvement to advance the quality, speed, and experience of programs.

  • Deploying strategy, tools and processes within their target schools, branches, and student organizations.

  • Activities include, execution, and continuous improvement of growing our talent pipeline including program design, features, events, and recruitment strategy.

  • Responsible for collecting and organizing data to support metrics to ensure success as it relates to candidate experience, program participant satisfaction, consistent experience, and performance across different business groups.

  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, education and employment trends affecting the recruitment function and engagement ideas.

  • Attend outreach activities as needed.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERTISE:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field

  • 8+ years of related experience

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience building and cultivating relationships with the community and universities or associations

  • Proven track record of taking ownership, thinking creatively, acting independently, and performing tasks with direction.

  • Dynamic and engaging presentation skills possessing strong communication skills

  • Technical experience designing parts and products with a history of taking ideas from concept to production.

  • Experience with a high-level CAD system

  • Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems

  • Accredited Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Significant responsibility for decisions and final results, affecting more than one function or a function with multiple units. Substantial analysis is required and many factors must be weighed before a decision an be reached

  • Work requires the ability to plan and perform work in light of new or constantly changing problems, work from broad instruction, and deal with complex factors not easily evaluated. Decisions require considerable judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in areas there is little precedent

  • Mentor and lead others

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Routine business/shift hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.

DEMANDS AND DEADLINES:

  • High volume and variable work demands and deadlines impost strain on routine basis or considerable stress intermittently; OR regular direct contacts with distressed individuals within the immediate work environment; and/or exposure to demands and pressures from person other than immediate supervisor
