The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.

Description of Job:

As the Sr. Project Engineer at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for completing professional level engineering assignments related to production and utilities areas. You will plan and execute small to medium size projects requiring equipment, piping, instrumentation, mechanical and electrical design. You will devise new approaches to problems encountered. Examples of project assignments include process improvements, safety and ergonomic improvements, capacity increase, and utility conservation. As the Sr. Project Engineer, you will have additional project team responsibilities, as required, during major capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs, plans, and manages engineering phases, including P&ID development, equipment and instrumentation specifications, process requirements, work scope, procurement, cost control, construction oversight, commissioning, and project closeout.

  • Oversee process and utility system modifications to ensure safety, production, and regulatory compliance.

  • Applies engineering principles, making minor process adaptations and modifications as needed.

  • Verifies system drawings through walkthroughs, ensuring proper identification and tagging of pipes and valves.

  • Prepare project documentation, including Management of Change requirements, test reports, and as-built updates.

  • Standardize design documents and schematic drawings.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum four-year engineering degree, or equivalent experience, preferably a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree.

  • Five years minimum of project experience in a process, bioprocess, pharmaceutical or similar industry.

  • Design experience with batch reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, filters, valves, and instrumentation.

  • Detail design experience with custom fabrications.

  • Structural design (AISC & LRFD standards), FEA, AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or CAD modeling experience is a plus.

  • Project management experience.

  • DCS and PLC programming experience is a plus.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (oral and verbal).
