NBC Universal Technical Specialist, Networks and Communication – Global Attraction Programs in Orlando, Florida

JOB SUMMARY:

Leads and performs complex activities related to networks and communications strategy, including security, designs, communications infrastructure implementation and acceptance testing of the ride show attraction networks. This position includes all related network and control system security. Business requirements include being an internal expert/networking consultant to Engineering, Vendor/ Project Management and Project Stakeholders. This position requires full collaboration with Universal Creative (UC) Ride Show Network (RSN) division.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute attraction networks operation strategy, to include;

  • Design, development and management of Type-1 and Type-2 network supervisory safety, reaction and monitoring systems for existing park attractions. Fully understand and enforce Universal & Industry standards related to ride/park networks.

  • Design, development, and integration of Attraction Operations Center for attraction data aggregation and monitoring.

  • Design 3-tier and ISA-99 defense-in-depth network models to enforce security and increase network segregation and security among ride show networks.

  • Execute attraction systems data compilation and mining while adhering to safety and design strategies, including support systems such as Access Control and Building Management.

  • Design and execute acceptance testing strategies with Universal Creative including but not limited to DRSS. Follow the Service Bulletin (SB) process for due record keeping.

  • Design assurance and performance. Including:

  • Design and review network architecture for new projects and ensure appropriate security, growth, safety, redundancy, reliability and sustainability design strategies are in place and are given proper weighting in the design objectives.

  • Perform network performance and capacity analysis to ensure ride sustainability and develop / implement a capacity planning strategy to predict if and when network infrastructure investment will be required.

  • Design and maintain co-existing wired and wireless networks. Where required, work with the park IT group to ensure successful partnering and uptime requirements for both wired and wireless networks. Implement and support the next generation of shared services for ride show networking.

  • Develop strategy for fault management to be time and date stamped to ensure that network systems implement correctly and PLC code does accordingly. Eliminate extraneous messaging that comes in with the root cause fault. Ensure that fault data link into database management.

  • Oversee attraction architecture renovations and updates to take advantage of new technology and safety / security techniques as applicable to control systems networks where applicable. Understand hardware and firmware currently in use and ensure updates as appropriate for upgraded and obsolete equipment. Ensure that change modification tracking is implemented and reviewed. Remain abreast of latest technology regarding hardware, software and security tools.

  • Provide design and maintenance support for attractions under GAP control at Universal owned and operated Parks worldwide including training controls and tech services personnel. Maintain configuration management of hardware and software documentation in accordance with Engineering’s guidelines for proper archiving and security. Ensure proper access, accountability, and processes are in place for appropriate maintenance, support, testing, and design of ride show networks in new and existing attractions.

  • Ensure Engineering & Tech Services PCs integrate with various tools and programs that are required with technology in the field.

  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:

  • Associate’s degree with a combination of equivalent experience or

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, information technology, computer engineering, computer science or related field is required.

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, information technology, computer engineering, computer science or related field is preferred;

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years’ experience as a Network Systems Engineer working in a large enterprise or service provider network

  • Ability to work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously

  • At least 3+ years of Theme Park related experience designing, installing or troubleshooting Ride Show Networks; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco UCS environment, scripting, Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), VDI, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, Storage, backups

  • Knowledge of network and security to implement and maintain new solutions

  • Technical experience with Cisco ASA Firewall

  • Experience implementing and managing VMware vCloud/vSphere environments

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Preferred (any combination of) certifications: Cisco Industrial Networking Specialist, CCNA, Microsoft MCP, MCSA, MCSE, VMWare VCA/ VCP.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Responsible to oversee existing attraction network systems design, architecture renovations, implementation, testing and updates where applicable to take advantage of new safety and security requirements part of control systems networks. Network infrastructure and communications security for all Ride & Show control and software systems and modification projects for increased reliability and operational improvements.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to work in a fast paced and collaborative environment. Effective skills in task prioritization and time management. Ability to travel as needed.
