AVCON, INC. Staff Accountant (3+ years' experience) in Orlando, Florida
Overview
Under the general direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities and other financial activities. The Staff Accountant will be processing invoices, preparing monthly and year-end closing journal entries, fixed assets maintenance, bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(may include but are not limited to):
Performs general ledger accounting duties and other related duties for the organization.
Prepares monthly balance sheet, income statements and cash flow statements.
Maintains the general ledger.
Codes invoices and distributes them for approval prior to posting to the accounts payable module.
Verifies and completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable on a weekly basis.
Monthly reconciliation of the bank accounts.
Reviews and reconciles Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables.
Match receipts to credit card charges and records the payments from bank account.
Verifies and processes Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) to vendor and /or agencies.
Follow-up on account statements on discrepancies regarding payments of accounts.
Serve as a liaison between departments and vendors in the resolution of problems and inquiries.
Obtain, track, review, post and pay employee expense reports.
Files tax forms with the federal, state, and local government agencies.
Completes month end close process and prepares journal entries.
Participates in various initiatives spanning multiple departments.
Analyzes and coordinates a variety of financial data and reports and presents them in a useful and understandable manner.
Manages the Fixed assets module and prepares the monthly depreciation entries and reconciliations.
Provides financial analysis on a monthly basis.
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects as needed.
Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Three (3) plus years’ experience in a comparable role.
Experience with project job cost accounting in a professional services environment, preferred.
Deltek Vantagepoint software experience, preferred.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS
Solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting practices.
Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
Excellent attention to details
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities to meet deadlines and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to maintain confidentially and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of heavy deadlines.
Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
LICENSURE
Valid drivers’ license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
