Universal Engineering Sciences Senior Manager of Project and Cost Accounting in Orlando, Florida

Summary

The Senior Manager of Project and Cost Accounting is responsible for supporting the governance and consistent implementation of our project accounting methodology aligned to US GAAP for organization’s new ERP solution. This role will work with the Finance teams implementing the new ERP solution and assist with each implementation at our various sites around the US, including leading data validation and functional training for finance processes such as Accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing and revenue generation.

This role will interface between the controllership functions and the integration team to ensure appropriate processes and controls are implemented within the ERP and develop communications to the Executive Management Team on weekly operating performance while driving the operational aspects of the planning process. This role will have significant interaction with finance and operations, driving operational improvements grounded in the financial and operational analysis.

The successful candidate will join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement, and member development. This person will enjoy developing solid business relationships with their counterparts in the, operations, and quality roles to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. Through those roles, this position will play a key role in providing impartial financial analysis and guidance, decision support, and development of financial acumen across the operations team and quality teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop consistencies in application of project accounting and cost methodologies in the ERP system

  • Define project accounting methodologies that allow for flexibility based on project contract variances

  • Continuous monitoring of incurred time and expenses, comparing accuracy against the established project budgets, across UES businesses.

  • Post implementation, review project labor, expense, and subcontract charges with Project Managers for accuracy and appropriateness.

  • Monitor accuracy of the estimates to complete against initial budgets and time incurred

  • Create and implement processes to improve financial accuracy and efficiency

  • Work with project accounting teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures

  • Development of KPI reporting for monthly analysis

  • Identify potential issues and coordinate issue resolution/problem solving with other functional teams

  • General ledger reconciliation responsibility including all project related accounts

  • Monthly analysis of work in progress, progress billing, and accounts receivable

  • Participates in the annual budgeting process

  • Drive the development of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable project reporting

  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external reviews and audits

  • Create new processes to improve financial efficiency

  • Supervision of Project Accountants

  • Work with project accounting teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures

  • Such other duties as assigned from time-to-time

  • Travel is approximately 50%, depending on work location

Qualifications

  • At least 10+ years of experience in finance

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management information systems, or similar discipline

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (preferred)

  • Master’s in finance or similar discipline (preferred)

  • Experience in project and costing methodologies

  • Solid understanding of financial statements and GAAP accounting principles

  • Experience in implementation and exposure to project management

  • Experience in ERP, preferably Deltek and Vantage Point

  • Excellent verbal, communication, and written communication skills

  • Professional integrity and discretion in handling confidential information

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing and tight deadlines

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Experience in the AEC, Field Services, or construction sector is desired, but not required
