Shepard Exposition Services Material Handling Supervisor in Orlando, Florida

The Material Handling Supervisor will oversee freight operations and dock labor on show site for assigned events. This position will manage all material handling processes, including comprehensive show planning that encompasses labor and equipment allocation, job assignments, operational hours, documentation procedures, timekeeping, and job costing.

Key Contributions For The Role

  • Oversee dock labor and operations to ensure a safe working environment while appropriately allocating tasks.

  • Train and guide dock labor on company processes and procedures.

  • Communicate with decorating operations and the show Account Executive regarding the move-in and move-out schedule of shows.

  • Collaborate with facility managers to ensure that all facility rules and regulations are followed at all times.

  • Coordinate with the In-House Material Receiving Supervisor/Lead/Foreman on the flow of warehouse freight to show site and vice versa.

  • Assess operational needs and request equipment, tools, and labor for successful show production.

  • Ensure compliance with all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Manage job costs efficiently to maintain budgetary constraints.

  • Oversee the logistics of rigging and machinery, including ordering and supervising all drivers, machine operators, and relevant equipment such as cranes and high-capacity forklifts.

  • Conduct safety and service meetings with the material handling team to reinforce safety protocols.

  • Analyze and explain invoices to exhibitors, ensure timely collection of all payments, and assist the Exhibitor Services Specialists with disputed invoices.

  • Analyze labor budgets to project union labor and staffing needs effectively.

  • Produce accurate payroll forms and timecards for on-site labor.

  • Complete the post-show recap following the conclusion of each event.

  • Communicate with exhibitors regarding any shortages, damages, or rerouting issues concerning outbound shipments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience required; supervisory experience preferred.

· Experience working with unions and managing labor relations preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making abilities.

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals; adept at drafting reports and correspondence.

  • Proficient in performing calculations related to pricing and discounts, quoting process, and effectively scheduling staff.

  • Familiar with current material handling rates, show rules and regulations, association requirements, and pertinent information to show.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and time-sensitive environment.

  • Must successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screening.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience may be exchanged for formal education.
