Opportunity at a Glance

The Village of Orland Park's Recreation Department has immediate openings for responsible, enthusiastic individuals with a strong customer service aptitude and proven work ethic to work as Assistant Manager(s) for our outdoor Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at Centennial Park. The Ice Rink features free skating, a warming house, skate rentals, special events, and weekly bonfires.

Key Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for Ice Rink operations including: overseeing Ice Rink staff during assigned shifts; assisting with the training and scheduling of Ice Rink staff; ensuring all Ice Rink staff exemplify superb customer service and exhibit the highest level of professionalism at all times; oversee daily operations including skate rentals, use of the Ice Rink, enforcing rules, coordinating special events, maintaining the ice, warming house and pathways; supervising the fire pit, making change runs, deposits and completing the required reports.

In addition, this position will directly oversee daily operations during assigned Manager-on-Duty shifts, and this will include openings and/or closings.

This role works in close coordination with the Parks Department to ensure that the ice is maintained, Ice Rink facilities are kept in good working order, grounds and pathways remain accessible during work hours and that skates are sharpened on a regular basis. In addition, this appointment will play an active role intending to immediate grounds maintenance needs resulting from inclement weather including maintaining the ice and pathways by shoveling snow, operating a snow blower and spreading salt as needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

The ideal candidate must be a proficient skater and able to work outdoors during cold temperatures. A minimum of 1 - 2 years of related prior experience required. Prior supervisory, customer service and cash handling experience are a required.

Candidates should have an exemplary work ethic, which displays consistent and prompt work attendance. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

This is aSEASONALposition form early November through early March.

Hours: Approximately 20 - 25 hours per week. Interested applicants must be available weekday afternoons, evenings AND weekends. Additional morning and daytime hours will be worked during holiday periods.

Hourly Rate of pay: $14.25 - $18.35, DOQ.
