Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Research & Development Technician V.

The hours for this role are 7:00am - 3:30pm

The hourly rate for this position is $35-$40 per hour per hour.

What you’ll do:

Summary : The Research and Development Technician V will fill a critical role within the Orchard Park Engineering Team’s new product development activities. They will coordinate and effectively execute all engineering tests on new products being developed across the business unit.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work on complex assignments requiring independent judgement and action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.

  • Execute complex development tests on a variety of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hardware.

  • Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

  • Provide training to new team members.

  • Contributes to the development of concepts and techniques.

  • Completes layout and build of dedicated setups necessary to conduct tests.

  • Modifies hardware as needed using standard machine shop equipment.

  • Participates in and provides input to design reviews for new products in development.

  • Maintains detailed notes and illustrations to document test setups and results.

  • Coordinate with outside test laboratories to arrange for testing that cannot be completed in-house.

  • Coordinate with Operations Team to schedule testing/resources when workload cannot be executed within the development lab.

  • Troubleshooting skills on assorted mechanical, pneumatic and electric equipment.

  • Champion laboratory safety and 5S activities to maintain a professional, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Recommend new procedures and ways of working to improve efficiency and effectiveness of development lab – continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Associates Degree from an accredited college or technical school

• Minimum of 12 years of direct experience in the build and test of complex mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical hardware (Industry or Military or combination of Industry/Military experience)

• Experience with safely assembling and operating high pressure pneumatic hardware and test equipment.

Preferred:

• Minimum 8 years of direct experience with executing build and test on engineering development hardware and test equipment.

• Data acquisition system setup

• Basic machine shop equipment experience (mill, lathe, drill press, etc.)

• Basic soldering and wire crimping experience

• Ability to manipulate CAD parts and assemblies

• Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and markups

• Experienced operation of thermal/humidity chambers, altitude chambers, hydro test equipment, helium leak test equipment and vibe/shock stands
