A Brief Overview

The Clinical Skills Lab Educator provides clinical skills validation via course instruction and simulation experiences to clinical roles upon hire. Provides course instruction for department classes such as Nurse Residency, Transition to Pediatrics, PALS, and PEARS as requested. Flexible hours, typically works Monday through Friday

Essential Functions

  • Provides skills lab competency validation instruction for defined clinical staff. • Implements skills validation sessions that incorporate adult learning strategies, ethical principles, critical thinking skills, professional growth, open communication, and collaborative relationships. • Incorporates BLS, PALS, PEARS, Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, error prevention techniques, and language of caring concepts and skills into scenarios. • Develops and uses versatile skills at adapting teaching style based how learner responds, making changes as needed to promote critical thinking development. • Provides real-time debriefing of each skill validation with learners to identify strengths and opportunities for skill development based on scenario. • Collaborates with area educator to communicate strengths and opportunities for each employee after skills lab completion. • Ensures regular skills lab evaluation process is completed by participants. Aggregates data by role and provides professional quarterly report to department and area leaders with findings and recommendations. Makes recommendations for process or skill changes to skills lab curriculum as recommended. • Uses collective evaluation information to strengthen own skills for teaching.

  • Maintains equipment and supplies for skills lab workflow. • Develops and maintains technical competency on simulation equipment • Develops and maintains ability to problem solve/trouble shoot issues with skills lab equipment • Based on role-specific competency requirements, obtains and maintains required equipment and supplies needed for skills stations • Ensures all equipment/supplies are clean and in working order for each class. • Uses chain of command to communicate issues with participants; curriculum; equipment/supplies for prompt resolution.

  • Collaborates with department peers and program leaders to teaching department course curriculums as requested. . • Educational activities reflect identified needs of the target audience and/or organizational priorities related to clinical practice. • Designs each educational activity to include documentation of a needs assessment, description of target audience, educational objectives, content outline, teaching methods, evaluation strategies, and designation of appropriate resources. • Uses a creative, engaging teaching style that promotes critical thinking development. • Teaches Pediatric Advance Life Support class a minimum of three times per year.

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing required, equivalent work experience may substitute for education. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in pediatric nursing Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong pediatric clinical nursing knowledge and background.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in applying the nursing process, nursing skills, and nursing research into patient care, teaching, and systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include use of computer technology in program presentations and/or data analysis.

  • Able to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current license as a registered nurse in the state of Nebraska/Compact State. Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and

  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and

  • PALS INSTRC - PALS Instructor within 1 Year Required and

  • Current and valid certification in pediatric specialty Preferred
