A Brief Overview

Performs multi-modality neurodiagnostic testing on pediatric and adult populations.

Essential Functions

  • Performs high quality neurodiagnostic tests on pediatric and adult patients according to department policy and in accordance with standards of practice. • Gathers pertinent medical history to aid neurologist in the interpretation of data gathered during the testing. • Prepares patient and caregiver for diagnostic exam by providing education/instruction at a level that is easily understood • Uses appropriate distraction techniques involving caregivers to aid in the successful completion of tests • Performs and records electroencephalography (EEG) and Long-Term Video Electroencephalography (LTVEEG) • Assists neurologists in the completion of and recording of electromyography (EMG) • Assesses and trouble shoots to minimize the risk of poor or incomplete data collection. Coordinates schedules to assure timely completion of tests • Arranges schedules to prioritize patients and testing • Flexes workload to meet patient care needs • Is available and ready to begin testing at scheduled times; Communicates with caregivers any delays in start of testing Assists with the management of health information • Assists neurologists in the timely reporting of test results by proofreading and correcting errors prior to physician review • Takes appropriate actions to communicate with physicians and expedite test result reporting • Utilizes processes that facilitate charge capture and charge reconciliation of the procedure charges and professional fees. • Utilizes processes that accurately record departmental statistical data Other duties include assisting in training and developing train new staff members to the Neurodiagnostic Tech I and Neurodiagnostic Tech II positions and Neurodiagnostic Students. • Supervise contracted Neurodiagnostic students from specified schools in the clinical hospital setting • Orients Neurodiagnostic Techs and Neurodiagnostic Students to the equipment used at Children’s • Provides opportunities for directly supervised hands on learning in the clinical setting • Responsible for accurate completion and documentation of all procedures performed with new staff and students

  • Maintains adequate supply levels by monitoring, ordering and restocking supplies

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university in a neurodiagnostic technology program or certification. Candidates may be considered with on-the-job training if they have a current and valid American Board Registration Electroencephalographic Technologists Society (ABRETT) Required and

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to communicate effectively

  • Requires basic computer skills

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be board-eligible and requires successful completion of the written examination, within 2 years of hire Required and

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and

  • EEG-R - Electroencephalographic Technician Registration within 2 years of hire Required
