Omaha Public Power District Engineer II (Transmission Operations) in Omaha, Nebraska

OPPD is looking for a talented Engineer II to join our Transmission Operations team. The Engineer II - Transmission Operations will provide technical consulting to the Transmission Operations Department, ensuring the integrity, reliability, and safe operation of our Transmission System. This position is vital for the effective utilization of transmission capacity and ensuring compliance with applicable NERC Operating Reliability Standards.

Key responsibilities include analyzing and tracking transmission outage data, conducting planned outage analysis, scheduling, and coordination, as well as preparing operational guides for managing constrained electric facilities. The Engineer II will serve as a technical advisor to both internal and external customers, providing expert operations technical advice to the planning, engineering, and construction departments.

The role also involves collaborating with Key Account Executives, Field Supervisors, and Corporate Communications to provide outstanding customer service. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in local and regional operations committees as needed.

Responsibilities

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.

  • Two (2) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.

  • Valid driver's license.

Desired:

  • Degree with an emphasis in power systems studies.

  • NERC Operator Certification, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or other relevant certification.

  • Experience using advanced modeling software to complete operational studies and analyses such as load flow analyses, contingency analyses, and other power system studies.

  • Working knowledge of EMS/SCADA hardware and software.

  • Co-op, internship, or other relevant program experience.

  • Experience with converged IT/OT environments.

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with co-workers, vendors, and customers (internal and external).

  • Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.

  • Ownership and accountability to provide timely, accurate results and openness to improvement and change.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Familiarity with Electric Utility Operations, Planning, Design, and Construction Practices.

Minimum: $86,386

Midpoint: $107,982
