We are looking for an Associate Chemist to join our Food Safety Quality and Regulatory Affairs team in Omaha, Nebraska!

Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Conagra's facilities in Omaha are state-of-the-art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and pilot plant capabilities.

As an Associate Chemist , reporting to a Senior Chemist, you will analyze food products and packaging materials to determine quality attributes and chemical composition; ensure compliance to manufacturing and quality specifications, nutritional labeling specifications and regulatory and food safety standards using standardized and research test methods and technical procedures.

Position Responsibilities

• Under direct guidance, develop and execute project goals and technical work plans.

• Perform chemical analysis to identify problems and opportunities to support product development, nutritional labeling, quality programs, and applied research.

• Communicate with direct team members and leaders to provide analytical guidance to other business teams.

• Contribute to development and continuous improvement of test methods, technical procedures, and other laboratory processes.

• Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment; troubleshoot and repair.

• Champion a positive food safety culture, take ownership, and empower others to take immediate action on matters concerning food safety

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.

• Practical hands-on laboratory experience.

• Basic knowledge of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.

• Some travel will be required.

• We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing for up to 8 hours a day.

• Use of laboratory equipment – ovens, balances, furnaces, blenders, centrifuges, spectroscopy and chromatography instrumentation, wet chemistry.

• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds periodically.

• Pushing/pulling laboratory carts.

• Work with solvents/acids/bases in fume hoods.

• Work in cold rooms/freezers.

• Work in and around cramped/confined spaces.

• Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

• Exposure to manufacturing environments including loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions. Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens.
