Position Information Position Title Teacher Educator for Multilingual Learner Education in the Master in Teaching Program, tenure-track Job Summary The Evergreen State College seeks a regular faculty* member with broad experience and knowledge in culturally relevant multilingual learner education who is interested in teaching in a collaborative, liberal arts context using a student-centered approach. The MiT program takes a developmental approach to teacher education, recognizing that becoming a teacher is a life-long professional journey that began before teacher candidates entered the program and will continue across their career. We seek candidates who bring knowledge of and experience working with Multilingual Learners in K-12 and/or higher education contexts, who bring critical perspectives to educational inequities, embrace language as a resource, place bilingual and multilingual students at the center of advocacy and social justice, and who serve as advocates of linguistically, culturally, and racially diverse students, families, and communities. We seek candidates who bring knowledge and experience in theory and research in multilingual education across the developmental spectrum, knowledge about multilingual methods, assessments, and WIDA Standards at all levels, and an ability to foster the development of teacher candidates who can understand and analyze culturally sustaining language teaching and learning to improve language and content learning in diverse educational contexts. The successful candidate will collaboratively plan and teach with an interdisciplinary team of faculty in the MiT program to prepare teacher candidates for an English Language Learner endorsement and an additional content area endorsement. This position may also have limited opportunities to teach education-related content in the undergraduate program. The successful candidate will be skilled in developing and sustaining professional and mutually beneficial partnerships with colleagues, students, local educators, district partners, families, and communities. Other responsibilities include participating in program accreditation, program improvements, college governance, and serving on our Professional Educator Advisory Board on a rotating basis. Job Expectations The MiT program is a full-time coordinated studies program where faculty plan and teach together. This involves extensive collaboration, working across differences, and ensuring that there is continuity in the learning experiences for teacher candidates. We prepare teacher candidates for a Washington State Teaching Certificate and endorse teacher candidates in a variety of areas at the K-12 level. Our teaching is centered on teaching for and with joy and justice. We are interested in helping teacher candidates become successful classroom teachers by developing strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. We are particularly interested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing opportunities for challenge and growth, and fostering a learning environment of belonging and connection. MiT faculty team-teach in the full-time, 60-credit, 4-quarter program which includes a year-long field experience, culminating in a full-time student teaching quarter.
