TEKsystems Network Technician in OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma

Description

This position will be responsible for designing, overseeing and managing installation, operation and maintenance of wireless local area network (WLAN), network switch equipment, wireless access points, software and monitoring tools for The University of Tulsa’s campus network infrastructure and its links to the outside world. Ensure reliable operation of the wireless infrastructure through monitoring, reporting, and regular maintenance of dependent systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Plan, design, implement and maintain wireless networks to meet the business needs of a medium enterprise

• Develop and recommend solutions to enhance system performance and stability

• Program and install wireless products from HPE-Aruba and others as required

• Maintain Aruba equipment and perform system upgrades including code and hardware upgrades and

equipment moves

• Find ways to fine-tune existing wireless networks by adjusting RF settings, Client Matching, band steering and

adjusting/changing areas of the network to provide optimal wireless solutions to the end-user population

• Write scripts to resolve support issues or automate infrastructure deployment and collect metrics

• Work with third party vendors and assist with equipment configuration, placement and provide suggestions for

optimal equipment performance

• Develop training materials to assist first through 3rd-level support for end user and system issues

• Document every new and existing site with network diagrams, management IP addresses, hardware lists,

backup running-configuration and other information needed to troubleshoot any wireless issues

• Perform spectral analysis of existing installations and recommend and implement needed changes based on

recommended service levels and equipment load.

• Analyze existing architecture and implementation and make recommendations and changes needed to support

real time applications

• Implement rouge detection and containment, and other security requirements as recommended by information

security leadership.

• Cross-train other members of the network team and provide documentation so that any member of the group

can support and troubleshoot wireless network issues

• Communicate with vendors and peers to be aware of emerging products, technologies, and services

• Perform other duties as assigned by Network Director/Supervisor

• The individual in this position should be available outside of normal work hours to assist in emergency events.

As a result, this individual is expected to be reachable, within reason, via a mobile device.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, computing, engineering, or other relevant technical fields, or equivalent

experience.

• Ability to solve complex technical problems independently.

• Thorough understanding of wireless authentication, security and network management.

• Ability to use tools to generate heat maps to provide optimal AP placement to produce wireless signal

coverage

• Experience with packet capture and analysis products

• Experience in utilizing industry standard network management tools

• At least four years experience in a network position in a midsize or larger environment, utilizing

enterprise-class switches and routers (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, etc.).

• Advanced experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting connectivity for a wireless network

with a controller-based architecture (Cisco, Aruba, etc.)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $25.00/hr.
