Medical Center Hospital Medical Assistant Trainee in Odessa, Texas

Position Summary:

The MA assists the physician and mid-level practitioners in providing quality care as delegated. Under general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, provides initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services. Assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

Responsibilities and Authorities

Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

As patient care and/or Clinic and Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Records vital signs, maintaining records, administering injections, and recording results.

Prepares and assists patients undergoing treatments, examinations, and procedures.

Must be able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Must be able to read and write medical terminology.

Escort patient to exam rooms.

Prepare exam rooms for examinations and testing.

Maintains knowledge with current patient privacy laws (HIPAA) and patient confidentiality.

Stock supplies in exam rooms and laboratory.

Document items to meet meaningful use goals reported to CMS.

Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential crisis; communicate patient needs and unusual circumstances with patients/families.

Complies with ethical conduct guidelines as described by the Standards of Behavior.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification or transcript of completion of a Medical Assistant course is not required, but physician must sign off on assuming responsibility for employee.

Training and Experience:

BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.

One year experience as Medical Assistant or clinical rotations in a clinic setting is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities desirable but not mandatory.
