TERI Ceramics Professional in Oceanside, California

TheCeramics Professionalis a Direct Support Professional responsible for providing ceramics and three-dimensional related art experiences and education to students/clients in the adult day programs and the Nonpublic School programs. This position involves working collaboratively on projects/goals with the Artistic and Managing Director of Fine Arts. This position also involves working with community professionals at the Zable Fine Arts Building. The Ceramics Professional is an integral part of a creative team that assists in directing the TERI Artists, creating ceramics for display, retail, and artistic expression. This position is a Direct Support Professional position with responsibilities that include assisting individuals with personal care, providing behavioral support. and obtaining a class B drivers license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers adapted ceramics lessons that address all levels of client ability.
  • Oversees a group of up to 4 individuals
  • Teaches a full range of art mediums to individuals at all stages.
  • Provides creative and client appropriate art activities to individual and groups of clients.
  • Uses a range of teaching approaches to make lessons enjoyable, challenging, and productive.Structures lessons to reflect the needs of individuals/groups
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Accompany and rehearse with guests as needed. Lead/oversee rehearsals for ceramics programming and TERI Special Events, including artists

Rate$23 - 25 / Hour

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS degree in Education, Art Education, Studio Art, Fine Art, Ceramics, or related field
  • Ability to operate ceramic studio equipment
  • year prior experience working with developmentally disabled individuals or related field required.
  • Demonstrates personal skills, creative talent and ability in ceramics, preferably proficiency with multiple tools and mediums such as hand building, wheel throwing, kiln operation, low fire and mid-fire glazing, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop, write, and deliver a genre of arts and ceramics curriculum.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn new ceramics instruments and technology and incorporate new knowledge into classroom activities and instruction.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use and operate kilns, pug mils, wheels, press and various hand tools like dremels and electric sanders.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Class B license.
