BASIC PURPOSE

The Program Assistant assists in providing safe, loving, and learning environments for programs under the Education Center. Program Assistant assists Corps officer and/or Education Center Supervisor to run programs including Chinese learning and Music/instrument learning. The Education Center is an outreach program of The Salvation Army / Oakland Chinatown Corps, serving the community of all cultures, ethnicities, and ages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Seek opportunities to develop personal growth in the following skills regarding working with children:

  • Ability to relate to children in a manner which contributes to their personal growth.

  • Ability to competently prevent and deal with discipline problems.

  • Ability to plan and carry-out lesson plans (content areas: Chinese Language learning, Music/ music instruments learning).

  • Ability to assist and conduct an educational activity.

  • Ability to assist active indoor and outdoor games and learning activities.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with Corps Officer / Education center supervisor.

  • Ability to assist activities and prevent exposure to safety hazards.

  • Adhere to The Salvation Army’s “Protecting the Mission Policy for Work with Minors”.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Minimum age 15 with valid work permit.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.

  • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.

  • Ability to reach overhead.

  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs. for administrative positions.

  • Ability to operate a computer.

  • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Telephone, Copier, Printer.
