This position is located at the Bridge Office in Oakdale and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position will provide leadership and direction to the Bridge Construction & Operations section so that policy and priority for use of construction and operation resources, technical services and technical training are established and maintained. This assures that all state, county, township, and municipal structures will be constructed, inspected, and maintained in a safe and cost-effective process. This position has full managerial authority and accountability for human resources needed to manage programs and deliver services in accordance with state and federal regulations and in a manner that addresses the needs of customers. The position will work closely with the State Bridge Engineer, State Bridge Design Engineer and Bridge Hydraulics and Planning Engineer, Districts, FHWA, local agencies, and industry.

Occasional in-state travel to meetings and bridge sites is required. Occasional out-of-state travel is also required to attend regional and national conferences. Some travel may be overnight.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Engineer (civil) with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) AND five years of post-registration experience with three years of experience at the Engineer Principal level.

Technical expertise: Experience in structural design, specifications, materials, fabrication, construction, inspection, and maintenance for all types of bridges, highways, railroads, and other structures.

Policy making: Experience developing and implementing policies, rules, standards, and procedures; and application of federal and state, laws, rule, regulations, etc. related to the operation and delivery of construction, inspection, and maintenance programs.

Human relations: Experience building and maintaining relationships with staff and a variety of agencies, organizations and/or stakeholders.

Fiscal: Experience managing a program budget.
