Job Title: Senior Hydrogeologist - Technical Lead

RSI is seeking a senior level Subject Matter Expert/Technical Lead with recent experience in hydrogeology, geochemistry, or a related field with a focus on CERCLA remediation at Federal Facilities.

Candidate will be responsible for supporting high-profile projects in a complex hydrogeologic environment, interpretation of environmental media monitoring and contaminant transport within geological strata, and providing support to the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) groundwater strategy. Supports tasks under the Water Resources Restoration Program include field implementation, data analysis, conceptual site model development, and reporting. Provides support to and interfaces directly with Regulatory and Department of Energy agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical expertise and/or support for geologic and hydrogeologic investigations including but not limited to data collection, management, and interpretation; geologic and hydrogeologic visualizations; analytical and numerical groundwater flow modeling; contaminated site investigation and characterization; and development of conceptual site models at complex sites

  • Work with engineers, GIS specialists, and other environmental experts to contribute to larger multidisciplinary projects.

  • Assist with the preparation of technical documents including, but not limited to, work plans, reports, proposals, calculations, and cost estimates.

  • Design, evaluate and implement components of environmental remedies in the office and field. This work may include use of a variety of remedial alternatives/technologies (e.g., enhanced bioremediation, thermal treatment) and operation and maintenance of remedial systems (e.g., pump and treat).

  • Design and oversee drilling activities including monitoring wells, direct push installations, and maintenance activities. Interface with sampling teams to troubleshoot issues. Interface and/or oversee well drillers.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum M.S. degree in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry or related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in hydrogeological characterization on CERCLA sites.

  • Experience working with Regulatory agencies (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and relevant state regulatory agency) on a government site.

  • Experience with environmental regulatory requirements including CERCLA regulations and the CERCLA decision-making process.

  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills for environmental consulting applications.

  • Innovative problem-solving abilities.

  • Knowledge and experience with the ORR geology, groundwater, surface water, and site history. Thorough understanding of complex subsurface lithology and structural geology of the ORR.

  • Experience and understanding of groundwater characterization and remediation; groundwater well installation, development, and monitoring; development of conceptual site models; and groundwater fate and transport modeling. Providing support using technical impracticability waivers.

  • Experience in the development of Data Quality Objectives and Sampling and Analysis plans.
