Amentum Aircraft Mechanic 2 Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems; in Oak Harbor, Washington

Amentum is currently seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic II specialized in Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems in support of the U.S Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. The Aircraft Mechanic II is responsible for inspecting and performing organizational level maintenance/ modification on EA-18G aircrafts, sub-systems, support equipment and related weapons system. The Mechanic also advises and trains team members to solve unusual maintenance problems by running analysis and tests on missiles, airframes, engines, flight control, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical/electronic systems, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

Service, repair aircraft, and aircraft engines to ensure serviceability. Repair and replace, aircraft structures, landing gear, power plants, fuel systems (including cells, tanks, and fuel/metering control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, rivet gun, and drills. Inspect and repair power plants (engines) malfunctions, including cracked components, oil leaks, etc. Diagnose malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct breaks. Test engine operation, using testing equipment to locate source of malfunction. Replace and repair damaged components, use hand tools, gauges, and test equipment. Remove engine and major components from aircraft, using hoist or other lifting devices. Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects. Repair and replace defective engine components and reassemble and install engine in aircraft. Adjust, repair, or replace instruments, avionics and navigations, ADP flight control, electrical/electronic, fuel/oil systems and aircraft accessories. Perform aircraft services, including engine flush/cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks. May service engines and airframe components at flight line operations making repairs, short of overhaul, required to ensure aircraft safe operating condition. May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies. Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship. Provide scheduled/unscheduled organizational maintenance support. Inspect the aircraft for tools and other foreign objects that could potentially put the aircraft or aircrew at risk. Inspect the aircraft to certify that all maintenance performed by the team is correct and complete. Perform inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, surface finish removal, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation services supporting the following aircraft and aeronautical equipment systems:

Perform all other position related duties as assigned, requested, or directed by local directives.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Five (5) years actual and recent aircraft organizational level experience required.

  • Three (3) years F/A-18E/F/EA-18G experience required.

  • Three (3) years CDI qualification and leadership required.

  • Preferred with F/A-18E/F/EA-18G fuel cell maintenance qualifications.

  • Preferred with F/A-18E/F/EA-18G engine operation certification.

  • Selected candidates will be required to hold this job position for one year.

  • Have the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex malfunctions and perform complex Organizational Level Maintenance actions in support of the EA-18G aircraft.

  • Must possess a level of experience necessary to inspect all aircraft assigned, certify Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries, and possess one or more of the following specialties:

  • Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems.

  • Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold

  • Hydraulic/Pneumatic, and mechanical Flight Control Systems

  • Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS)

  • Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight

  • Control and Lighting Systems

  • Aircraft Armament

  • Line

  • Corrosion

  • Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft, missile, or wheeled and tracked vehicle maintenance mandatory.

  • Must know theory and principles of engine operations:

  • Accessories and components

  • Theory of flight

  • Rigging of flight controls

  • Electrical and electronic

  • Pneudraulic

  • Mechanical principles

  • Read, interpret, and use manufacturers and aircraft maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.

  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance and meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned task.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • Position is requiring travel.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment, aircraft hangars, flight line, and shipboard that are moderately lighted, heated and ventilated to extreme weather conditions outside, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts, sweepers, tow vehicles, and aircraft. May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dusty, and dirty. May also be exposed to moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment, hangars, flight line, and shipboard flight deck is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. The employee will be required to use Fall Protection equipment with PPE.
