Position: Senior Tax Analyst – REIT

Overview:

Our client, a global leader in their industry, is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst specializing in REIT taxation. Reporting to the Global VP of Tax, this role is critical in managing REIT tax compliance and providing strategic guidance to tax leadership. You will be a key contributor to the finance team, ensuring compliance with REIT tax regulations and optimizing tax strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • REIT Tax Compliance: Oversee REIT compliance processes, including income and asset testing, distribution tests, and annual E& P and return of capital calculations.

  • External Provider Coordination: Work closely with external service providers on REIT tax matters and ensure accurate and timely tax filings.

  • Tax Strategy Development: Assist in formulating global REIT tax policies and strategies, contributing to the company’s overall tax planning efforts.

  • M& A Tax Issues: Engage in REIT-related tax planning for acquisitions, including due diligence and integration processes, ensuring transactions are "REIT ready."

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with REIT compliance, including prohibited transactions, excise taxes, and related party rents.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams such as accounting, finance, and legal, and liaise with external legal and tax advisors to ensure comprehensive tax management.

Requirements

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience working with large company, corporate federal tax with at least 1 year of direct REIT tax compliance and partnership taxation.

  • Public Accounting/Corporate Tax Experience: Proven track record in public accounting or detailed tax experience within a global corporation.

  • US Tax Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of US tax laws related to REIT compliance, with hands-on experience in modeling income and asset tests.

  • M& A Expertise: Strong knowledge of separating REIT and TRS business activities in acquisition due diligence preferred.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
