ZF North America, Inc. Engineer III - Systems (Developer) in Northville, Michigan

Job Duties: Responsible for system requirements management, configuration management, system design, system validation and system integration of electronic components (e.g., Power Inverter or Power Control Units) used in powertrain systems of Hybrid or Electric vehicles; Analyze, derive requirements into system requirements for definition of components & system architecture and the breakdown of system requirements placed on sub-systems/engineering domains; Support technical discussions with customer; Identify components for implementation of system requirements; Define, develop, design Power Electronic/Inverter system functions; Specification of cooperation of different components/sub-systems for implementation of technical

functions; Specification of common interfaces & dependencies between components/engineering domains; Review, negotiate customer requirements/agreements on technical system requirements in DOORS/Codebeamer and support obtaining customer sign-off; Ensure customer/system requirements are linked & ensure requirements are up-to-date; Support definition of proper System Requirements per customer requirements; Collaborate with development to define system architecture per technical requirements and to create system FMEA; Technical contact for System related topics; Support development of safety concepts to achieve functional safety goals; Oversee system configuration definition/releases to ensure HW & SW levels compatible & tested prior to release; Discuss, develop, link software, mechanic & hardware requirements to ensure traceability; Identify, develop alternatives to problems/delays; Provide status updates inclu. escalation topics; Collaborate with hardware, software & systems engineers to implement systems engineering strategies based on V-Model principles; Support troubleshooting & analysis tasks; Support all testing  phases & product implementation; Perform feasibility studies; Participate in continuous improvement; and Participate in audits and ensure compliance with ZF QMS, inclu. IATF 16949, A Spice. A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available. Position requires up to 10% travel to domestic and international production plants and/or customer sites to support issue resolution.

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related field, plus 2 years of experience in engineering, product development, or related occupations, and demonstrated experience with: Systems engineering for product development; Requirements management process, including customer requirements, system requirements, and domain requirements; Technical architecture and systems design of electronic or mechatronic products; Testing of electronic or mechatronic systems, including simulations, calculations, test case definition, test execution, and test documentation; V Model development process, including its application to different roles and stakeholders; and Performing requirements management including maintaining proper documentation, traceability and tracking of requirement status.
