Director of Special Transportation Services

Job Overview: The Director of Special Transportation Services manages non-emergency transportation for governmental and private, non-profit agencies within a jurisdiction, focusing on providing free transportation for elderly, handicapped, or other qualifying residents.
Requirements:
Experience: Five years of supervisory experience in planning or operating transportation services, including route and schedule preparation. License: A valid NJ driver's license may be required if vehicle operation is necessary for job duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage non-emergency transportation services for qualifying residents.
- Work with governmental and non-profit agencies to provide transportation services under contract.
- Monitor transportation routes and vehicle assignments.
- Identify needs, negotiate contracts, and prepare service proposals.
- Assess and improve the effectiveness of transportation services.
- Establish cooperative working relationships with program stakeholders.
- Prepare financial, statistical reports, and manage budget and funding sources for grants.
- Keep accurate records and files.
- Learn and use electronic/manual recording systems.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Understanding of challenges in coordinating non-emergency transportation.
- Familiarity with special transportation needs of the target population.
- Ability to manage and evaluate a transportation program and solve problems.
- Proficient in preparing reports and maintaining records.
- Capable of building cooperative relationships with program participants.
- Skilled in using electronic/manual information systems.
- Proficient in English, with ASL or Braille as acceptable alternatives.
