Carleton College Dacie Moses House and Program Coordinator in Northfield, Minnesota

The Dacie Moses House Coordinator position is a live-in staff member who works with staff, students, alumni, parents, and other community members. This position oversees volunteers, student workers and house resident(s) to keep Dacie s legacy of home, generosity, kindness, and community within the house and for the larger Carleton community. The Dacie Moses House is usually open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including breaks (except during Christmas week). The Dacie Moses House Coordinator will serve in many capacities including the roles of community builder, adviser, supervisor, and on-site manager. In these roles, the Dacie Moses House Coordinator helps to shape the quality of the social experience for the students who frequent the House. Dacie Moses, a long-time employee at Carleton, was known for inviting students to her house for cookies, Sunday brunch, and conversation. In her will, she donated her house as a gathering place for students. Today, Dacie s houses one to two house residents and the Coordinator. It continues to be a beloved space where students hang out, play games, study, bake cookies, share Sunday brunch and listen to the Knights and Knightingales practice. This house provides a sense of home for many. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Supervision Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate House Resident/s and student workers. Supervise two student workers who are also residents, plus approximately five other student workers whose work supports the operation of the Dacie Moses House. Provide ongoing professional development for students (baking classes, mindfulness classes are some ideas). Set the tone for the use of the Dacie Moses House which should honor the memory and legacy of Dacie Moses while it provides an interesting and welcoming social space for students. Provide leadership and guidance for the student residents and workers who live in the Dacie Moses House and who are essential in the operations of the House. Provide backup to the student residents in case problem issues arise, including but not limited to inappropriate behavior on the part of guests. Work with committee chair to schedule meetings with the Dacie Moses House Committee to provide information, supervision, short/long-range planning and to assist with Dacie Moses House concerns Network with other Carleton programs/departments/staff (GSC, Intercultural Life, International Life, Office of Health Promotion, TRIO, SAO, etc). This provides positive collaborations as well as giving Carleton Professionals a space to find hospitality for themselves. Working with the Dacie Family to develop specific goals and objectives in relation to the operation of the Dacie Moses House. Fulfill assignments given by the Dean of Students Office related to the above duties. Administration Manage crises and serve as the building liaison in emergency situations. Complete reports for the Dean of Students office as needed to keep them informed of the Dacie Moses House operations. Work with the Business Office to manage the credit card purchasing for the Dacie Moses House by both staff and students. Work with student residents, the Office of Alumni Relations, and others as indicated to publicize Dacie Moses House events on campus, for alumni, and the Northfield community. Supervise the student residents in managing the Dacie Moses House guest room including reservations, handling of money; having the room set up and laundry done between guests. Approve and submit student time entry and turn them in to the Payroll office as indicated. Facilitate communication regarding building issues with custodial services, maintenance, and campus security services. Follow Dean of Students and Student Life guidelines for professional development and growth. Participate in Student Life and Dacie s assessment strategies.
