Job Description: Direct and consult on the technical activities of design teams on developmental and IRAD programs. Work closely with Program Management, Engineering Leads, Manufacturing and other departments as necessary to expedite project completion and facilitate/improve the overall operation of mechanical engineering development teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate the overall operation and performance of Mechanical Engineering development programs.

  • Provide technical leadership acting as a Mechanical Engineering SME working with a Chief System Engineer or IPT lead on design and development issues related to product development.

  • Support development and mentoring of the KEO Engineering team, with a particular focus on next generation leaders in the business. Support defining development goals and skill matrix’s for the team. Identify future skill sets needed.

  • Lead implementation of policy and process to meet business goals, including site specific design guidelines and standard work instruction.

  • Ensure that all technical project baseline requirements are fulfilled, review program documentation (including SSDD, SRVM) and other work products created by the program team. Review material and support internal and external design reviews including SDR, PDR, and CDR. Critical review of mechanical analysis, design material, compliance with requirements. Provide assistance to the team as required.

  • Work with Product Development teams and Lead Engineers to assure adherence to cost, schedule, and quality requirements.

  • Ensure adherence and use of applicable industry and site-specific technical standards, processes, principles, and techniques.

  • Support business development on proposals including generating WBS’s, BOE’s, and technical approach. Contribute to writing and editing technical volumes. Estimate/review resource needs for development programs. Act as primary technical interface to customer.

  • Act as a mentor/training resource to improve resource performance across the Mechanical Engineering Function at KEO. Promote a professional and ethical work environment. Provide timely and constructive feedback to engineering managers for performance evaluations and career development assistance and training.

  • Help craft and define current and future investment needs (IRAD roadmaps) that position the KEO business to expand and capture new business that will be critical to the site and Sector. Align those IRAD roadmaps with the Segment strategic pillars for investment. Act as project owner for IRAD programs as needed. This includes leading the IRAD team by ensuring technical milestones are being met, generating IMS’s, adherence to schedule and budgets, EV, and reporting technical and financial performance to division and sector on a monthly basis.

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

  • 7+ years of Multi-Disciplined Engineering Team Lead Experience

  • Must have prior experience being a Technical / IPT Lead on a developmental program

  • Prior experience mentoring engineers

  • Successful candidates must meet eligibility requirements to access US classified information

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DOD Secret Security Clearance

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current US DOD Secret Security Clearance

  • Undersea Systems Application Design Experience
