Actalent Controls Design Engineer in North Royalton, Ohio

Description:

Control System Design (60%)

  • Design, develop, and implement electrical control systems for new and existing equipment

  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software

  • Select appropriate hardware and software components to meet project specifications and performance criteria

Programming and Software Development (20%)

  • Develop and program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control devices

  • Write and test software code to ensure reliable and efficient operation of control systems

  • Troubleshoot and debug control system software and hardware

Project Management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, project managers, and production staff to ensure successful project completion

  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to deliver projects on time and within budget

  • Provide technical support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning

Testing and Validation

  • Conduct system testing and validation to ensure control systems meet performance, safety, and reliability standards

  • Perform on-site commissioning and startup of control systems at customer locations as needed

  • Document test results, system configurations, and modifications

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in electrical control systems and automation

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure all control systems comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations

  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, promoting a culture of safety within the workplace

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field

  • 3+ years of Controls Engineering experience (outside of schooling)

  • Proven experience in designing and developing electrical control systems in either AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen Bradley or Siemens) and HMI development; ability to program from scratch

  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes (e.g., NEC, IEC).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills both in person and over the phone; ability to work directly with customers

  • Experience with motion control and industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus)

PLUS:

  • Experience working with an OEM or systems integrator

  • Experience with fluid power systems (hydraulic and pneumatic)

  • Experience with welding processes

  • Siemens Step7, TIA Portal

  • FactoryTalk

  • Steel, injection molding, or OEM controls industry experience
