Salary Range: $96,960.00 - $140,592.00

Summary

The E&E Chief Counsel is responsible for the oversight of the Department’s legal section and interacting with state and federal agencies, conducting legal research, writing legal documents, and providing legal assistance to the agency. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Functions

The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment’s Chief Counsel is responsible for directing and supervising a team of attorneys and support staff, including interviewing, hiring, providing training, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating the performance of immediate subordinates. Provides legal services and advice to management and divisions. Drafts new or revised policies and legislation. Researches, analyzes, interprets, and evaluates policies, legal precedents, issues, and information and recommends courses of action to meet agency objectives. Maintains and shares technical knowledge of current federal and state legal issues, policies, statutes, legislation, and procedures. Conducts legal research; drafts and prepares legal briefings and responds to subpoenas. Presents training on legal matters. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a law degree from an accredited law school, plus six years of legal experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
