Element Materials Technology Molecular Laboratory Manager in North Liberty, Iowa

Overview

Element Materials Technology has a current opening for a Molecular Laboratory Manager to join our growing team in North Liberty IA. This position provides administrative and operational oversight of the activities of the molecular laboratory section of the Element Iowa City. The efforts include to assure accuracy of the data, scientific rigor, cost efficiency and productivity of laboratory section and assistance with the planning and development of the molecular laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all activities within the molecular laboratory assigning projects to staff and establishing priorities in consultation with molecular laboratory director(s).

  • Provide guidance to the molecular staff in the performance of testing methods.-Actively reviews test results for accuracy and completeness and liaises with directors on approving results to be published as the final dataset for analysis.

  • Assist Scientists and Directors in the development of proposals when assigned by a molecular director.

  • Assist Scientists and Directors with the generation of a final report as necessary for molecular protocols.

  • Assures that laboratory methods are performed according to SOPs and QC data is within established ranges.

  • Troubleshoots the causes of failed experiments and consult with Quality Assurance Unit when necessary .

  • Coordinates and routinely reviews the QC/QA program for the laboratory.

  • Coordinates annual proficiency testing and direct observation of molecular laboratory staff.

  • Demonstrates leadership innovation and a willingness to change the status quo by generating strategies for improving operations.

  • Communicates in a clear, concise manner to secure the understanding of the assigned tasks, vision and strategies for the molecular laboratory.

  • Evaluates the performance of the molecular laboratory employees.

  • Develops position justifications, in conjunction with monitoring work activity, through a standardized method to determine allocation needs and forecast future personnel needs (numberand mix).

  • Oversees the recruitment, orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional and technical support staff.

  • Coordinates inventory monitoring and requisitioning of supplies, synchronizing this activity with all laboratory employee’s needs.

  • Recommends capital equipment and facility improvement needs, including costs assessments and benefits.

  • Represents the laboratory in the professional environment including presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings and publications in professional journals.

  • Assist IT staff in the development of systems used by molecular staff gathering requirements and functioning as a subject matter expert.

  • Conducts project forecasting and communicates weekly testing counts to the General Manager.

  • Works with the Clinical Trial Coordinator on active clinical trial protocols

Skills / Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field from an accredited college or university and at least 5 years laboratory experience or a Master’s degree in a laboratory science field from an accredited college or university and at least 5 years laboratory experience.

  • Previous laboratory supervision and administration is desirable. Demonstrated proficiency in communication and working well with others is desired.
