POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for leading and developing advanced statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining techniques to extract valuable insights from complex data. This role is crucial to enabling data-driven decision making processes within the organization, translating data into actionable strategies that solve business challenges. Working regularly with IT teammates, stakeholders from front-line staff to executives, this role is tasked with understanding business problems and uncovering problems and proposing solutions.

Salary range for this position is $137,492.42 - $184,020.72 with a progressive benefit package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures confidentiality of member information.

  • Supports a diverse and inclusive work environment.

  • Lead initiatives to analyze and interpret complex financial data sets, uncovering trends, patterns, and insights that drive business decisions and strategy.

  • Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms to predict member behavior, assess credit risk, detect fraud, and optimize business processes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, data engineers, and IT professionals, to design and implement data-driven solutions that address business challenges and opportunities.

  • Procure datasets from internal and external sources, including SQL Server databases, APIs, and third-party vendors, and work with architecture and engineering teams to develop necessary datasets to stage for machine learning.

  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses, hypothesis testing, and experimentation to validate and refine predictive models and algorithms.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders, including executives, managers, and business partners, through compelling data visualizations, reports, and presentations.

  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data science and financial services, and contribute to the continuous improvement of data science capabilities within the organization.

Job Requirements/Expectations

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or quantitative analysis, with a focus on the financial industry.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL, as well as data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn).

  • Experience with Microsoft data solutions including Azure DB, Synapse, Databricks and Power BI.

  • Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques, with experience applying them to real-world problems.

  • Experience with SQL Server databases and the ability to write complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data.

  • Experience procuring datasets from internal and external sources and working with architecture and engineering teams to develop necessary datasets for machine learning.

  • Experience with financial data analysis, including credit risk modeling, fraud detection, customer segmentation, and marketing analytics.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Strong team player with interest in mentorship and a strong desire for continued learning.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the IT Director Data Services and Development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is not responsible for the supervision of others
