Position Overview

As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you will oversee repairing tractors, trailers, reefers, and light trucks and ensure all equipment in use is in good working order and compliant with all operation and safety guidelines. You will develop the operating plan and budget for the garage. You will be accountable for achieving overall operating results consistent with individual and company performance goals.

You will direct record keeping and filing of maintenance and repair information, fuel, tires, and parts purchasing, and inventory management. You will be accountable for accurate and complete records of maintenance and repairs in accordance with company policy and federal, state, and local regulations.

You will oversee associates' training and ensure they are provided ongoing skills development coaching to improve their job performance and advancement potential within the organization. Recruitment and development of fleet technicians, management of outside vendors, and coaching/influencing the Vehicle Operators that drive these vehicles. Completing special projects as assigned, and you will often be required to perform hands-on work activities.

Job Description

You Will Contribute By

  • Overseeing equipment inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, and service, reviewing vehicle and equipment failures, and responsible for providing reliable and safe vehicles and equipment for use across the distribution center.

  • Reviewing and evaluating the performance of all vehicles and equipment, addressing excessive wear and tear or high failure rates, and taking corrective action as needed. This may include removing equipment from use to ensure that work teams and individuals have the necessary vehicles and equipment to perform their jobs. Recommending replacement of vehicles and equipment based on assessment of service and maintenance costs versus replacement cost.

  • Leading the maintenance of safe work practices and conditions. Accountable for maintaining a clean and safe environment for associates and visitors at the garage per company policies and health and safety regulations.

  • Overseeing the scheduling of work teams and initiating short—and long-term planning with supervisors, ensuring the assigned mechanics and support personnel meet the business's needs under different and changing business conditions.

  • Assessing daily and weekly output and identifying trends in productivity. Directing the allocation of people, parts, tools, and equipment to address day-to-day and week-to-week demand for maintenance and repairs.

  • Leading the development of improved work processes and procedures that enhance productivity and effectiveness of assigned work teams, equipment, and space. Accountable for achieving the incremental results from the implementation of these improvements.

  • Preparing the operating budgets for the garage and reviewing and finalizing operating budgets with the distribution manager. Being accountable for developing and implementing work processes that ensure achievement of budgetary and service goals.

  • Overseeing record keeping, audits, and reviewing maintenance records. Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of maintenance, fuels, lubricants, tires, and parts purchasing and inventories. Purchasing fuels, lubricants, tires, and parts to maintain vehicles in service. Accountable for managing the costs of purchases in accordance with budgets and operating needs.

  • Conducting performance appraisals and coaching direct reports to enhance individual and team performance. Coaching and training associates to ensure equal opportunity for professional advancement. Assisting in developing individual and team performance improvement goals supporting company objectives.

We're Searching for Candidates With

  • 7-10 years of experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance, parts and fuel management, and/or transportation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 7-10 years of experience with extensive technical knowledge and skills related to internal combustion, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles.

  • DOT qualified to drive CMV is required.

  • Extensive experience and skill in vehicle and equipment maintenance related to distribution, warehouse, and transportation.

  • High standard of integrity and reliability.

  • Strong technical skills, including experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Suite.

  • Strong leadership skills, including team facilitation, training, and motivation.

  • Adept at preparing and delivering an address or presentation in a business setting.
