BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair physical structures of buildings, equipment, and ground maintenance by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In coordination with the Maintenance Supervisor, review, assign, and inspect the completion of work order assignments for the Maintenance Technicians. Coach and encourage other Maintenance Technicians on their work to ensure we are striving for excellence and being fiscally sound. Mark within maintenance tracking system the progress on each work order. Note: all Maintenance Technicians report to the Maintenance Supervisor. The role of Lead Maintenance Technician is to assist with the day-to-day operations and work ticket processing. Lead Tech is to complete all duties and tasks as an example to others.

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding/training process of new maintenance technicians, as vacancies occur.

  • Inspects, repairs, and maintains all of the properties of the Sacramento County Operations, including the Alhambra campus, and recommends outside contractors when needed.

  • Schedules and performs regular maintenance and repairs on heating and air conditioning units. Replaces filters as scheduled.

  • Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment on a regular schedule.

  • Replaces lights, fuses and batteries as needed.

  • Performs electrical and motor repairs as needed.

  • Paints rooms, buildings, including officers’ quarters and does masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings.

  • When requested, assist in directing volunteers engaged in ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.

  • Interprets company policies to volunteer workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Provides preventive vehicle maintenance to all Sacramento County Operations vehicles (belts, hoses, fluids, oil change, wiper blades).

  • Performs routine safety checks with the Maintenance Supervisor and site supervisors.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years of experience in building and property maintenance and/or equipment repair.

  • The ability to pay attention to detail, set priorities for projects and maintaining an inventory of supplies as needed.

  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a DOT-Regulated Salvation Army vehicle

  • Must pass pre-employment and enroll in TSA random drug testing program as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT); and

  • Must be 21 years or older.

  • Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program

  • Must pass annual Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

  • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis

  • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects

  • Ability to reach overhead

  • Ability to operate telephone

  • Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs. for positions that require lifting

  • Ability to operate a computer

  • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
