Job Description

In AbbVie Business Technology Solutions, you will work with our business teams helping to design and build data technology products. These products are deployed to support operations-quality team and access to all operations teams enabling accelerated development and deployment of advanced technology solutions. In this role, you will work collaboratively with technology and business groups to conceive, design, engineer, and implement data, software, and technology products enabling solutions that solve significant scientific or business problems. You will also investigate, identify, and implement state-of-the-art technology platforms that drive productivity and efficiency gains throughout multiple business areas.

BTS Operations BI team is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to engineer and operationalize the business capabilities of the data enablement, analytics, and Gen AI projects on AWS cloud infrastructure environment. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, and delivering on the vision of executive leadership, you will design and lead building the, helping to create solutions that impact patients and their communities for the better.

This is an opportunity to become part of the team building an integrated data and analytics platform powering data-driven insights that ultimately lead to better, faster decisions and therapies for patients. You will help enable and grow our culture of data driven insights and decision making. You will help drive OBI delivery performance through shortening cycle times and on time project deliveries.

Responsibilities: (this position is located onsite 3 days per week in Northern Chicago, IL)

  • Design and develop scalable and efficient data solutions/platforms to accommodate large-scale data processing and presentation.

  • Collaborate with data engineers, reporting team and data scientists to understand data requirements and develop loading processes for data enablement & models.

  • Build robust and secure end points to facilitate data access, retrieval, and integration across different applications & source systems.

  • Optimize the performance of data storage and retrieval operations to ensure quick and accurate access to data.

  • Implement data governance and security measures to maintain data integrity and assure stakeholder access.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in bioinformatics and data architecture to drive innovation and improve data management processes.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to data & report developers in the team.

  • Collaborate with other build and functional teams to identify and address data integration and interoperability challenges.

  • Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions for improved system performance.

  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to develop data models and structures that enable effective data analysis and interpretation.

  • Collaborate with data domain and platform architecture to review build solutions and incorporate standards as defined by review board.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years experience; Master’s Degree and 5 years; PhD and 0 years experience.

  • Hands-on technical proficiency in Python, EMR Script, Unix, and SQL a must

  • AWS development experience with core AWS services like EC2, Glue, Spark, S3, Redshift, Lambda, etc.

  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases from a data domain perspective

  • Experience building data engineering pipelines using orchestration tools like Informatica, Data Stage, Glue ETL, etc is must

  • Ability to design and build efficient data flows, including extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, to ensure seamless integration and movement of data across different systems and platforms.

  • Experience with development of API architecture preferred

  • Experience with Data modelling and Data Platform development preferred

  • Exposure to Metadata management, data quality, master data, and data lineage a plus

  • Exposure to Cloud, preferably in an AWS cloud environment a plus

  • Experience in performance analysis, troubleshooting, and implementing solutions to improve system performance.

  • Knowledge of data mining techniques for data analysis & reporting tools like Qlik, Power BI or Spotfire a plus.
